Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens

#1

I dont normally look at 3rd party lenses for my Nikon but lucky for me the little woman did. For my birthday she bought me a Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens for my Nikon. It’s about $200 cheaper than the Nikon equivalent but there is also a $100 rebate which makes this lens a steal with an after rebate price of $349.

Build quality seems on par with the low end Nikon lens. It’s good but you know it’s not an $1800 lens. This lens is pretty substantial, large diameter and pretty heavy. Not as long as one would think IMO. The lens also has Tamron version of vibration reduction.

Well I went in with low expecatations and was pleasantly surprised. In a day of shooting offhand I took some fantastic pictures. I do struggle a bit with the size and weight because of my lack of fingers but I have ther d800 set to shoot as long as I hold the shutter down. I typically do 4 or 5 shot bursts. One of those shot’s is usually a keeper.

This big lens likes a lot of light and on a bright day moving from bright sunlight to the dark of the forest or a tree top does require some adjustment but it’s no big deal.

A nice surprise was shooting macro from a distance. Great sharpness and perrfect popping colors.

All in all Im very pleased and having a blast with this lens. I will upload some pictures later and post them here.

Yesterday I was at the old ladies house and a military type helicopter flew over. I did not have much time but I managed a pretty good picture. Also sitting on a bench I heard a funny noise. I didnt think about it at the time but I was seated 3 feet from a hummingbird feeder. Not wanting to scare it off I managed to turn the camera on and record some video with the camera hanging off my neck… It’s a little over exposed because the camera was setup for something else but Ill post that video too.

I saw a Hummingbird Moth the other day. I didn’t even know such a thing existed until then.

A lot of people think those are hummingbirds. Used to see a lot of the moths in the Adirondacks of NY

Here is a helicopter that few over just before the hummingbird video. Fine details were not visible by eye. It was hazy as hell.
